Breaking News — Framework Computer today announced the Laptop 13 Pro, a modular machine that skips the annual chassis overhaul in favor of swapable components. The new model features a brighter, higher-resolution display, significantly longer battery life, and up to an Intel Core Ultra X7 processor (code-named Panther Lake).
"We continue to prove that performance and repairability can coexist," said Framework CEO Nirav Patel in a statement. "By keeping the same chassis design year after year, customers can upgrade their CPU, screen, battery, and ports without buying an entirely new laptop."
The company claims the 13 Pro delivers over 20% more runtime than its predecessor, thanks to a larger battery and the efficiency of the Panther Lake SoC. The display is now rated at 400 nits with a 3:2 aspect ratio — ideal for productivity and creative work.
"Framework's approach directly challenges the planned-obsolescence model that dominates the industry," said tech analyst Carolynn Greer of Reclaim Hardware. "For consumers who value longevity and reduced e-waste, this is a meaningful step forward."

Since its founding in 2021, Framework has sold modular, repairable, and upgradeable laptops. Unlike rivals that release entirely new models every 12 to 18 months, Framework retains the same 13-inch chassis — and even the same expansion-card system — across generations.
This means a Framework 13 from 2021 can accept the new 2025 mainboard, display, and battery modules. The company also sells spare parts and provides detailed repair guides, earning it high scores from iFixit and right-to-repair advocates.
The Laptop 13 Pro is the first model to carry the "Pro" badge, signaling a focus on performance and professional users. It supports up to 64 GB of DDR5 RAM and optional 4G LTE connectivity via an expansion card.
What This Means
The 13 Pro represents a maturation of the modular concept — it now matches (or beats) the specs of premium ultrabooks while remaining user-serviceable. For consumers, it means fewer forced upgrades and lower total cost of ownership over five years or more.
Environmentally, each reused chassis keeps hundreds of pounds of e-waste from landfills. The repairability-first design also aligns with emerging right-to-repair legislation in the EU, US, and Canada.
"Framework is showing that sustainability and high performance aren't mutually exclusive," said Patel. "We hope other manufacturers take note."
